Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 July 2026
CoMarker (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the CoMarker platform at comarker.com.au and the associated grading application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using CoMarker you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who we are
CoMarker is an Australian AI-assisted essay marking tool designed for teachers and students in K–12 education. For privacy enquiries, contact us at hello@comarker.com.au.
2. Information we collect
Account information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
Student work and rubrics. Teachers upload student essays, task sheets, and rubrics to receive AI-generated feedback. This content is processed solely to provide the grading service.
Grading history. Completed grading results (marks, feedback, teacher notes) are stored in your account so you can review and export them.
Usage data. We collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps for security and performance monitoring.
Payment information. Subscription payments are handled by our payment processor. We do not store full card numbers.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the CoMarker grading service
- Process student submissions through our AI grading pipeline
- Store and display your grading history within your account
- Send transactional emails (account verification, billing receipts)
- Respond to support requests
- Monitor for abuse, security threats, and service reliability
We do not use student work to train AI models, sell data to third parties, or send marketing without your consent.
4. AI processing and third-party sub-processors
CoMarker uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Anthropic (Claude API) — student submissions and rubrics are sent to Anthropic's API to generate grading feedback. Anthropic's API data is subject to their usage policies; Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models.
- Supabase — stores user accounts and grading history in encrypted databases hosted in cloud infrastructure.
- Vercel — hosts the CoMarker web application.
These processors only receive data necessary to perform their specific function and are bound by appropriate data processing agreements.
5. Student data
CoMarker is used by teachers to mark student work. Teachers are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate permission to submit student work to third-party services, in accordance with their school's policies.
We treat student work as sensitive data. It is not shared with other users, not used for advertising, and not retained beyond what is needed to provide the service. Teachers can delete individual grading entries or request full account deletion at any time.
6. Data retention
We retain your account data and grading history for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently removed within 30 days. Individual grading records can be deleted at any time from within the app.
7. Security
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted to authorised personnel. We follow industry-standard security practices and conduct periodic reviews of our data handling procedures.
8. Your rights (Australian Privacy Act)
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have breached the Privacy Act
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@comarker.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Cookies
CoMarker uses session cookies necessary for authentication. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser but this will prevent you from signing in.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. Continued use of CoMarker after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
